This qualification is designed to reflect the role of individuals who work in museums and who perform a range of skilled tasks using discretion and judgement, and who have the ability to select, adapt and transfer skills to different situations.

Generally volunteers, or others involved within the Museum industry.

How long will it take? +

Full-time 6 months (part-time equivalent)

 

Where can I learn? +

  • Flexible Delivery

How will I learn? +

On/off job, regulatory requirements, analysis of units to identify specific delivery modes, flexible delivery approaches.

  • On campus delivery will occur in classrooms, computing laboratories of the RTO and simulated workplace situations.
  • The workplace and RTO has the joint capacity to deliver the units chosen, provide necessary resources/equipment and provide the learner with the opportunities required to develop the competence
  • Training program outline to be negotiated with the learner, enterprise and RTO to establish the above and training assessment time frames.
  • When a workplace supervisor has assessor qualifications the RTO will supply a training coordinator to ensure training and assessment requirements are met.
  • Assessors require industry related qualifications as detailed within the Museum Training package
  • Costs are considered to ensure training and assessment is practicable, and designed to ensure efficiency for the workplace and the RTO
  • The RTO and the workplace will monitor all OH&S issues for learners

Do I need any skills? +

Minimum Entry Requirements:

Students must complete a Pre-enrolment Entry Checklist (including the selection criteria).

Applicants must submit a resume, a letter of application and participate in an interview (by appointment).  (During the interview, the applicant will write a page on the value of museums, libraries and information agencies to the community.)

Applicants will be assessed at interview on their ability:

  • to communicate effectively
  • to provide customer service
  • to commit themselves to study
  • to communicate in verbal and written formats
  • to use software applications
  • to show aptitude to work in the Museum and Library/Information environment

 

Qualification requirements +

To attain the CUL30204 Certificate III in Museum Practice 10 units must be achieved:

  • 4 core units; plus
  • 6 other units with at least 3 from one or more of the areas within the Museum and Library/Information Training Package. The remaining may be selected from any endorsed Training Package.

How much will this qualification cost? +

The levy or fee you will pay at the Polytechnic will depend on whether you are a Year 11/12 student or a mature age student (i.e. you will turn 20 or older in the year of enrolment).
